-Our body by nature is made for optimizing “feels goods”. If you try to go away from pleasure or goes to uncomfortable situations you will face strong friction, resistance in all your bones. Everything feels like it’s pulling you away from doing the “right” thing—which makes you feel good.
-It seems like unconsciously always I’m running away from hard and boring things and towards easy, pleasurable ones.
-We are so week, I’m week. Impulses get us—we are driven to pleasures with force.
-You don’t put more work—as you need to relax. Your body tells you it’s time to relax all the time. It’s time to enjoy life.
-The solution recommended is to always resist bad things; you fight the temptations with all your power. I bet everyone knows how it feels while doing this. The painful friction we experience as if our body and soul is being dragged away from its own home.
-What is this? was it our nature to begin with? why it feels painful to move away from these things?
-Was it our nature to love comfortably these things which brings pleasure, which are easy. You know it’s so good and it scares you, but you keep pushing away from it at the same time constantly being pulled towards it.
-I think it’s like on default we have been made for easy pleasurable life. It’s our nature that’s why it has always been hard to go away from them even if you manage to do that it still requires enormous amount of energy to maintain your state otherwise you turn back to the old ways as if nothing happened all these years.
-I think it’s in our nature to want to feel good all the time. And by nature, doing and being righteous requires more energy to achieve and maintain.
-But our mind doesn’t want that life, we know it deep inside it’s not what we want, not who we want to be. But these “feels good” are always opposing and resting us whenever we try to change. It has been like this, always fighting and fighting against them.
-Our will power is not strong enough over these things. You can’t fight your own nature.
-The solution I’m thinking about:
I think we might use this nature against us. Yes, we like “feels good” we can use it to trick ourselves into doing what real matters: make what you do playful and enjoy full. You can’t go head-to-head with it will be painful.
The good thing also is once you start doing good things the momentum in doing it, the accomplishments start to feel good; that you start to see the resistance you have been facing before as nothing (as now you feel good). But this is momentary; each time you stop or take a break the frictions come again. It becomes hard to start again.
But one thing is guaranteed: when you are in motion the resistance is not there anymore. You only need one thing each time: when you think it’s about time to do good things you have to trick yourself that you are going to the good mood, you are not going to do something hard.
You only have to trick yourself to start. Don’t depend on will power only, don’t wait for inspiration. Find trick ways to bring you to momentum.
-The tricks I commonly do to work on the projects and things I like:
I go to sit on my workspace and watch all the things I have done, look at my work, look around on every corner—there is no effort I’m putting here but eventually I’ll start to work on it.
I do the easy part or something else which is simple.
The momentum comes and I keep doing it. The will power is not there all the time. It’s not your fault or you are weak, it’s just that is your nature and you have to fight against it every time. but the best way is to trick yourself into doing work and be a good person, acting in the best way.
-I don’t know well how to keep being a righteous man. I’m trying to do experiment too in various ways. Mostly I try to redefine the purpose of acting in a certain way to have a different meaning than that defined in merely doing it.
